Is Trump wealthiest president of the States?

Despite campaign rhetoric for centuries that hypes candidate‘s identification with the common man, the fact is no poor individual ever was elected as president of the United States.

Harry S. Truman, who was a Democrat, was paced at the bottom of the list with less than $1 million. The amount also equals to 8 American presidents in the early modern America.

Baraka Obama was raised in a broken family with poor economic background was no more financially poor when he was became president of the states. His teaching job and government’s salary that he took as servant of the Sates let him to gather between $1 million to $5 million before being elected president in 2008.

The latest edition to the list, Donald Trump has topped the list with nearly $4 billion net wealth breaking the American war hero, George Washington’s centuries-old record. Washington was an amount of wealth worth $580 million.

The Americans helped Donal Trump ($3.7 billion) to break the 227-year old record $580 million) which was set by the America’s first president, George Washington, who took his oath on 30 April 1789. According to the Forbes Magazine, a product of his shrewd business sense, a marriage to a wealthy widow and several inheritances made him being the richest president of the United States.

An investigation into Trump’s wealth, which was conducted by The Forbes, said Trump’s total wealth is worth $3.7 billion in 2015.

If you look into the world richest president-list, Russia’s Vladimir Putin tops the list with wealth net worth $40 billion that followed by late Thai King late king of Thailand, Bhumibol Adulyadej, who has nearly $30 billion.

The US’s richest president-elect is liked by the world richest president Putin. It sounds cool!

Being a businesswoman, UK PM Theresa May, is one of the latest editions to the list, who assumed on 11 July 2016.

Now, time to think is the world heading towards a conglomeration of capitalists?

ট্রাম্পের বিজয় কি রাজনীতির পরাজয়?

 

হিলারির হার কি জনগনের প্রতি রাজনীতিকদের অনস্থা তৈরি করবে? নাকি রাজনীতির প্রতি জনগণের অনস্থা দেখলাম আমরা? এমন অনেক প্রশ্ন আসতে পারে। সেটা অবান্তর নয়। কারণ, গণতান্ত্রিক পরিবেশে কেউ রাজনীতি করলে তার স্বপ্ন থাকে একদিন রাষ্ট্র প্রধান হয়ে তার স্বপ্ন বা তার দলের নীতি ও আদর্শ বাস্তবায়ন করা। সর্বপরি জনগণের জন্য কাজ করা। শুধু যুক্তরাষ্ট্র নয়, গণতান্ত্রিক পরিবেশে এটা সব দেশের ও রাজনীতিকের জন্য প্রযোজ্য।

হিলারির হয়তো তেমনি স্বপ্ন ছিল। একদিন দেশের রাষ্ট্র প্রধান হয়ে সে স্বপ্ন মর্তে নামিয়ে আনা। ১৯৯৩ সালে যখন ফার্স্টলেডি হিসেবে ওয়াইট হাউসে প্রবেশ করেন, হতে পারে সেটাই সে স্বপ্নের যাত্রা শুরু ছিল। টানা ৮ বছর  সেখানে থাকা হয়তোবা সে স্বপ্নকে আরো দৃঢ় করেছিল। ২০০১ সালে তিনি প্রথম সিনেটর নির্বাচিত হন। হয়তো  তিনি ২০০১ সালেই সেই স্বপ্নের পথে প্রথম বাস্তব পদচারণ করেছিলেন। দীর্ঘ ৮ বছর সিনেটর নির্বাচিত হয়ে হয়তো  তিনি সে স্বপ্নের পথে হাটতে শুরু করেছিলেন। শুধু তাই নয়। চার বছর সেক্রেটারি অব স্টেট থাকা কালে তিনি ১০০ টিরও বেশি দেশ ঘুরেছেন। কথা বলেছেন তার ও বেশি রাষ্ট্র প্রধানের সাথে। একজন রাজনীতিবিদ আর কি বা করতে পারেন। কিন্তু, কোন কিছুই কাজে লাগেনি। জনগনের জন্য এতো কিছু করার পরও যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের জনগণ  তাকে ভোট দিলেন না। জনগণ বেছে নিলেন রাজনীতি ও জনসেবায় যিনি বকলম ও বাকপটু এক ব্যবসায়ীকে।

একজন রাজনীতিক তার মেধা, শ্রম, সব প্রচেষ্টা দিয়ে জনগণের জন্য কাজ করে। তার লক্ষ্য থাকে জনগণ তাকে নির্বাচিত করে আবার তাদের সেবা করা সুযোগ দিবেন। কিন্তু বাস্তবে যদি হয় তার উল্টো। সেটা তার জন্য নিশ্চয় বেদনা দায়ক। সেটার প্রতিক্রিইয়ায় ভয়ঙ্কর উদাহরণ ও আছে। সুদূর অ্যামেরিকা নয়। আমাদের দেশেই এমন উদাহণ যে নেই তা নয়। গত ইউনিয়ন নির্বাচনে দেখেছি, ভোট না দেওয়ায় একজন প্রার্থী তার টাকায় করা রাস্তার ইট তুলে নিয়েছেন। শুধু ইউনিয়ন নয়। জাতীয় পর্যায়ের নেতাদের মন্ত্রি বা কাঙ্ক্ষিত পদ বা নির্বাচিত না হতে পারার ক্ষোভ দেখেছি। সে অর্থে এধরনের পরাজয় একজন রাজনীতিবিদদের জন্য আনন্দের নয়। অথচ সবচেয়ে অবাক ব্যাপার হলো। সারা বিশ্বের রাজনীতিকরা ট্রাম্পকে অভিনন্দন জানিয়েছেন। আমার তাদের কাছে প্রশ্ন। এমন ঘটনা তাদের নিজের জীবনে হলে মেনে নিতে পারতেন?  জীবনের মূল্যবান সময় যারা রাজনীতির পেছনে ও জনগণের কল্যাণ চিন্তায় কাটিয়েছেন। হতে চেয়েছেন জনগণের নেতা। রাষ্ট্রপতি বা প্রধানমন্ত্রী। হঠাত করে কোন ব্যবসায়ী বা কংলোমারেট এসে  যদি সে স্থান দখল করে ? পারবেন সেটা সইতে? নাকি সেটা যৌক্তিক হবে? আমাদের দেশেও সে চেষ্টা হয়েছিলো। এদেশের জনগণ সেটা মেনে নেয়নি। অথচ তারাই আজ আবার ট্রাম্পের জয় জয় করছেন।

ট্রাম্পের বিজয় আর যাইহোক রাজনীতির পরাজয়। হতে পারে সেটা রাজনীতির কূফলের প্রতি জনগণের অনাস্থা বা ব্যবসায়ীদের রাজনীতির প্রতি বৃদ্ধাঙ্গুলি প্রদর্শন।

রাজনীতি যে তুলসীপাতা ধোয়া সেটা বলছিনা। আর একজন ব্যবসায়ী বলতেই তিনি নরাধম হবেন তাও নয়। কিন্তু আমারাই তো যুগযুগ ধরে এটাই মেনে নিয়েছি। দেশ পরিচালনায় আমারা রাজনীতিকদেরই চাই। পোক্ত নেতা চাই। ব্যবসায়ীদের নয়। ব্যবসায়ীরা রাজনীতিতে আসুক সেটা খারাপ নয়। খারাপ হল হুট করে মাথায় বসা। শূন্য অভিজ্ঞতা নিয়ে মাঠে নামলে। জনগণকে না বুঝলে। কল্যাণের চেয়ে অকল্যাণই বেশি হয়। কারণ দেশ সেবা চর্চার বিষয়। রাজনীতি চর্চার বিষয়।

Hashi Mukh: A school of hope

There’s no roof, no walls and no benches to sit on, but a school is radiant with a glow of hope.

Hashi Mukh school is a beacon of hope for many underprivileged pupils. The school is not a usual educational institution. It’s a sort of guardian. Outside of their regular schooling, this school guides the students through proper tutoring and provides them with tuition fees, food and uniform as required.

Since 2010 it has been educating hundreds of students who are underprivileged and unable to bear education costs, studying in various education institutions in the area, on Paribag street.

The students are slum-dwellers and street children.

“I want to be a doctor,” said Shathi Akter Sony a student at the Hashi Mukh school.

About her aims in life, she said, “I’m choosing the profession so I can provide medical assistance to insolvent people in the society.”

Another student of the school, bosom friend of Shathi Aktar, replied in the same manner.

Both of them have been studying at the school for three years.

Not only Shathi Akter and her friend, but there are 100 underprivileged children also dreaming to be doctors, engineers, self-reliant persons in various fields in the future.

Their eyes are full of hope and their nights are filled with beautiful dreams. They dream of better lives, a far cry for them years ago. The school has brought light to their hopes.

Now dozens of university students are bearing the torches to illuminate the lives of these children.

The school has been bringing smiles to the faces of hundreds of underprivileged pupils for half a decade.

Md Zahid Hasan, a participant at the school, hoped to be a teacher.

“I want to teach poor children in society as I have been taught in this school,” Zahid Hasan said about his aim in life.

Like Zahid, Md Imran Hossain Nazim hoped to be self-dependant in future, being an engineer so he can earn a good living.

About his objectives, the little boy spoke of his noble vision, “I want to build a school for underprivileged students spending the money I earn so they can study free of cost.”

Madeza Akter, daughter of late Kurat Ali, hoped to a government official.

Mazeda said, “I want to be a government official since I can serve the country being an honest bureaucrat”

After her father died, her mother hardly can manage food for their family. But the poverty could not stop her. She got CGPA-5 in class five last year. This year she has become first in class six in half yearly examinations at Dhanmondi High School.

The university students, who themselves are students, are educating the street students under the open sky to light up the future of the children.

“I am proud of to be a part of this noble journey,” said Kulsuma Akter Reshmi, one of the teachers at the school, and a second-year student in the Peace and Conflict Department of Dhaka University.

About the school she said, “This school is like a guardian. It not only provides educational facilities but it also offers stipends, books and notebooks, pens and pencils, uniforms and breakfast in the afternoon for the students within its capacity.”

Julkar Nain, a teacher at the school, feared dropout of students in the coming years due to shortage of financial support.

He named three girls facing financial crises as they could not pay their monthly fees to their respective schools.

Asked about the financial support, he said some former teachers at the school, a few irregular donors, and strangers, bear the costs of the school.

“But recently this has fallen significantly,” he added.

He hoped, “If financial support increases, dropouts may be prevented.”

‘Civilized world’ a myth

The so-called civilized world has failed, becoming a true civilized one since the birth of Homo Sapiens in Africa 200,000 years ago. The history of the pretending civilization has turned into a tale of dreadful human beings over time, leaving the habitant a terrified piece of land.  Murders, wars, tortures, invasions, and religions are the worst practices here that have made the earth a hell to live in. People are being slaughtered; animals are being butchered in each and every corner of this human earth in everyday. Once the human beings named this land is a world of human civilization as they found themselves different from the animals living in jangles, but it has been thrown away the tag of humanity. Demanding their superiority to the jangle’s animals, they claimed themselves a civilized sect having a better vocal power, ready wits, and conscience. In course of time, they have filled the land and air with groans of humanity. They have made the earth a land of terrors.

Now all things — money, wealth, land, and fame— are being considered a precious one, but the humanity.  At the moment, the term, ‘civilized world’, has been replaced with ‘bestial land’. History of human being has become a tale of bestiary. And subsequently in the past years, animals showed their quite nature than human beings.

According to statistics between 1955 and 2002, 5.4 million were killed in various wars in 13 countries.

Continued wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan had taken a huge human toll on the three nations. Till March 2015, about 210,000 people faced violent deaths in the three countries.

Nearly, 92,000 people were killed only in Afghan war since its beginning in 2001 after the Twin Tower was attacked allegedly by the Osama bin Laden on 11 September 2001. Another hundred of thousand civilians lost their legs and arms in the 13-year war between Taliban militants and US-led NATO armed forces. About 165,000 civilians died in Iraq war between 2003 and 2015 though that much less than the original figures. A number of people are being killed in the Syria and Yemen in the name of nationhood.

This is the only sect in the universe whose history has been written following bloody wars and violence. No being in the world ever killed own in such numbers. Not only the war-torn countries but the scenario of violence has grappled the earth.

The battle of 30-year war was ended in 1648 but the ghost of the notorious war has been prevailing in our nationhood over the centuries.

If we look into a developing country like Bangladesh, will see people are being shot dead, tortured to death in each and every day, but it seems a general phenomenon to us. Only in 2013, over 500 hundred people were killed in political violence in Bangladesh; we all remain calm for sake of personal gains. Many of the victims were burned alive. It’s not that only for political reasons but our feelings towards humanity have been damaged.

The incidents of killing, torture, crying of a kid, and even death don’t shake our hearts at all. Our conscience has been numbed. Violence against women has added a new dimension to the human nature. That, too, cannot hurt our notions.

No particular country or no nation or no one is responsible, but we all. If we don’t correct us and don’t stop the inhuman practices, this earth will be a land of beasts and brutality.
